FABULOUS FIRST FOURTH

🌷Phil and I have always loved celebrating the Fourth of July together. While the majority of the City heads out of town, we stay local. We smoke/grill a bunch of delicious food, drink lovely wine, go on long, leisurely walks, enjoy a few cliche 4th activities - a parade, fireworks. This year was no different than the last five, except for one monumental difference - this Fourth was Evie's first.

The blazing heat was no match for our Peach. She took it all in stride, infatuated by the parade goers and entertainers. She met a coworker of mine, and her husband. Phil and Evie cruised through Lunds, picking out snacks for the weekend (and enjoying a parade heat reprieve with its blasting air conditioning,) while I had a full on "moment moment" with a fellow girl-mom, struggling after her daughter wet herself in the bathroom after a woman refused to let the little girl go ahead of her (awful).

Evie had 4 Fourth of July outfits. All fabulous, although not all practical. One was a hand-me-down from a girlfriend of mine (with matching bow) and the others were from my mother-in-law. No one loves a good monogram more than me and Robin, but sadly, Evie had to literally be cut out of an outfit because there was no give in the outfit, and I could not get her arms out of it.

Phil smoked the best ribs (along with other delightful meat treats), taught Evie a bit about American history, and we got two solid get-togethers with one of our favorite couples - eating, as we all love to do (it doesn't hurt that they are the best cooks we know,) and them getting to know Evelyn better.

Despite Evie entering her second teething stage, screaming bloody murder throughout part of the long weekend, we all enjoyed this casual holiday as a family of four. There was nothing overly exciting or entertaining about it; no cabin to go to or lake to cruise around on, but I wouldn't change our Fourths for anything. There is something profoundly fulfilling about spending all our time together doing absolutely nothing, but enjoying every moment. We certainly don't take for granted how lucky we are to have our healthy, happy little family. We've always enjoyed this holiday, but this year takes the cake, having our little Peach Puff with us makes every moment significant. 🌷
